Provides the missing link between broadband filtering and the OFSTED requirement to “Easily Identify the end user in the event of an online safety concern.

Whilst internet filtering has always been provided by Warrington School Services, the new strengthening measures introduced by the then Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan has resulted in schools having to review their E- Safety Measures. The Department for Education’s revised statutory guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) which came into effect 5th Sept 2016, meaning schools must ensure they have appropriate filters and appropriate monitoring systems in place, as referenced in the KCSiE statutory guidance. These are now a key part of Ofsted’s online safety inspections

We at EDAC have therefore developed a product ‘EDAC Sure Secure Internet Access’ to the plug the gap between the filter and the school to report flagged traffic down to the individual user. This negates the need to purchase an expensive second filter at school level that would require you to be responsible for compliance, updating, maintenance and monitoring.

The solution is a dedicated PC which sits between your network server and the outside world and requires every single user of the school Internet feed, on any device, to input a username and password prior to being given access to the Web. For guest access, a voucher system is built in, which may be particularly useful for community events, governors meetings etc. Where a temporary access is required for only a matter of hours. A voucher is issued by the system, you record who has that voucher, and the user inputs that code instead of a username and password thus allowing logging of temporary usage in one system.

As there are no e-safety issues with internal, server based content, this doesn’t slow the internal network down as no changes are made to the system unless an Internet connection is made. The system then records the Username, Date and Time of the Session and the IP address of the device. These logs are exported, in real time, to your network server where they are backed up and retained for historical access.
